Weathering Training

August 14, 2023, Monday

Tryna blog every week is every bit as head scratchin' as I thought it'd be. ^v^;

One thing I wanted to get started on this year was finally working toward becoming a fairytale and fantasy illustrator. I have another idea how I want to go about it. Time is the current issue. I've about adjusted to my boyfriend's 3rd shift schedule and it has helped immensely with the large drop off of house portraits I got this summer. No matter how I slice it or fight it, my brain will only art from 2pm to 4am, and primarily from 10pm to 4am. I do not understand why. It's just the way it is. Honestly, I think another factor is that he and I talk a lot while he's at work since usually his job isn't too demanding. For several years I had the kids around while I was working and I guess my brain got trained to do that socially. To a degree, we're working at the same time, and the joint productivity is nice.

Of course, I'll have to flip back to 1st shift when tax season gets here and the office opens in mid-January, but until then I can enjoy myself. Sleeping during the day is also a good way to try and escape the heat. The HVAC went out at the office earlier this year and I can't afford to replace it just yet, and I'm having to make do with a mobile AC unit and fans. Maybe I'll have a breakthrough with advertising this year and gain enough new clients I can start doing some much needed repairs around here.

Thursday night at class my sensei helped me settle on which two katas I'll be doing at the tournament next Saturday. If somebody videos it, I'll post it to my online accounts. I also signed up for point sparring, but last I heard nobody was in my division. Quite a few registrations have come in since I last talked to the coordinator for it, so maybe I'll have at least one person to go up against now. I didn't have a chance to practice over the weekend since I was working, but they are two katas I know pretty well, so I should be alright. I hope.

The weather has been odd the past few years. This year it's been unseasonably rainy, or so it feels like. Last week was very cool and in the 60s and 70s, whereas usually August for us is 80s and 90s. Sunday we had an excessive heat warning for 107°F, but then it stormed and was much cooler with low humidity. They say a cold front is coming in again. I welcome it.
